Enjoy Cavity-Free Teeth with Natural-looking Composite Dental Fillings
If Dr. Todd Anderson spots cavities in your teeth, he will likely suggest dental fillings unless you have large and deep cavities that require a crown. A dental filling is an essential treatment because it prevents your tooth cavity from spreading further, compromising your tooth’s structure. At Absolute Dental Care, we don’t install just any fillings. We use composite dental fillings because they are safe, natural-looking, and durable in cavity treatment.
The dental filling procedure
Typically, you need about one hour in a dental office to get dental fillings. The first step involves evaluating your teeth to spot any signs of cavities. We also use x-ray images to spot cavities hidden between teeth.
Before the filling process, Dr. Anderson numbs your gums to lessen discomfort during the treatment. Next, he drills out the decayed part and cleans it to remove any lurking bacteria. Then, Dr. Anderson applies composite resin layer by layer to fill your cavity and uses a curing light to harden the material. Finally, he will ask you to test your bite and make any adjustments if needed to the filling until your bite is normal.
After the treatment, your mouth might feel numb for a few hours, so avoid eating until the anesthesia wears off. This way, you won’t injure yourself accidentally by biting your cheeks or tongue.
Benefits of Tooth-colored Fillings
Like mentioned, we use composite dental fillings because they carry numerous benefits, including:
- Aesthetically appealing: Composite fillings are created from a material that resembles your natural teeth. As such, they are inconspicuous when you are smiling.
- Safety: Composite dental fillings are mercury-free, unlike metal fillings. Additionally, tooth-colored fillings don’t expand or contract as the temperatures change – this is common with metal fillings.
- Minimally invisible: Installing white fillings requires less removal of your tooth, preserving much of your natural tooth.
