Absolute Dental Care understands that every patient is different. Their backgrounds and experience with dentistry vary considerably. These backgrounds and experiences shape their perception of dentistry and dental visits, for better or for worse.
For this reason, we have invested considerable time, money, and effort in the amenities, technologies, and training to support the most comfortable and pleasant experience at our office in Nixa, Missouri. In fact, our team, led by dentist Dr. Todd Anderson, is certified in oral conscious sedation.
We see dental sedation as a “helper.” It complements our kind, non-judgmental, and skilled care. It is also a perfect complement to our investments in technology. These advanced tools support the most comfortable diagnostic and therapeutic experience.
Many dentists may offer nitrous oxide or “laughing gas.” The relaxing gas is inhaled through a small nasal mask. It may be appropriate for patients with mild dental anxiety or fear.
“Oral conscious sedation” is simply the medical way of saying that you take a prescription pill by mouth to relax you prior to your treatment or visit. It may be appropriate for many patients, including those with more intense dental apprehension or fear. It is also well-suited to those patients who may be undergoing longer or more complex dental visits.
Dr. Anderson and our team welcome any questions or concerns that you have. That way, we can determine the best approach to ensure you are comfortable with us and our services. If the oral sedation route is best for you, Dr. Anderson will choose an appropriate medication. Be sure to take the pill exactly as advised by our team. As its name suggests, oral sedation induces a state of relaxation, but consciousness is maintained. You do not go “fully under” like other, deeper forms of sedation. It is not unusual, however, for patients to get so relaxed that they fall asleep during treatment. We can easily wake you up once treatment is completed!
Since this form of sedation is associated with lingering drowsiness, you must arrange for someone to drive you to and from our office.
